How We Hunt Monsters

Gator Snatcher calls them “Mud Marlins” for a reason.

Hooking a trophy alligator on rod and reel isn’t just hunting — it’s war in the swamp.

The line snaps tight. The water explodes. A prehistoric predator dives, rolls, and surges through the dark backwaters with raw, unstoppable power. This is not a passive hunt. This is the ultimate chase — man versus apex predator — where patience, strength, and nerve are tested every second of the fight.

Catching an alligator on rod and reel is the most intense, hands-on way to pursue these ancient giants. You feel every headshake. Every violent roll. Every surge into the depths. There’s no mistaking it — you’re connected to pure power at the end of your line.

This is close-quarters, heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled chase of a prehistoric beast.

When do gator hunts take place?

Most Gator Snatcher hunts take place during the daytime, when we can cover water efficiently and locate active gators. This flexibility helps give hunters the best possible opportunity to locate and harvest their trophy gator

Do I need a license to participate in the hunt?

Anyone who wants to actively participate in the hunt will typically need a Florida Alligator Trapping Agent License, which can be purchased online or by phone. Whether you’re an experienced hunter or doing this for the first time, the goal is to give you a hands-on Florida hunting experience you’ll never forget.

What equipment is used during the hunt?

The equipment used depends on the type of hunt. On public water hunts, we primarily use rods and reels with heavy tackle to hook and control the gator before bringing it alongside the boat. On private land hunts, we have more flexibility and may use any legal method of harvest, including the use of firearms, depending on the situation and location. Adam will guide you through the process and ensure everything is done safely and legally.

What should I wear for the hunt?

Comfortable outdoor clothing is recommended. You don’t need camouflage, but many hunters prefer it. Closed-toe shoes, a hat, and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended since we’ll be on the water for several hours.

When is Florida’s alligator hunting season?

Florida’s regulated public alligator hunting season typically runs from mid-August through early November, depending on the specific hunting zone. However, Gator Snatcher also has access to numerous private land areas, which allows us to offer alligator hunting opportunities year-round depending on availability and permits. This gives hunters much more flexibility when planning their trip and increases the chances of targeting quality trophy gators.

How many alligators can you harvest?

The number of alligators you can harvest depends on the number of tags or hunts you choose to purchase. With Gator Snatcher, hunters can harvest as many gators as they wish to purchase (Pending Availability), and we can accommodate groups of any size looking to experience the hunt together. Adam will work with you to plan the hunt based on your goals, group size, and trophy expectations.
